Jimmy Carter (1924-)
James Earl (Jimmy) Carter Jr. was born on October 1st, 1924 in Plains, Georgia to a farming family. He is often known as the peanut farmer. He was raised in a Baptist family which secured his Christian believes and his passion for social reform and human rights.
In 1943 he went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis to study nuclear physics. Later he became a technical officer on an atomic submarine. When his father died in 1953, he returned home to take over the peanut farm.
He was elected senator in Georgia before becoming a US President.
